Historical basis of Vogu\u00e9o<\/a> In Greece, if you arrive in Aegina early in the morning, you'll see the local fishermen returning from the sea to tend their nets. Visit the holy sites, including churches and monasteries and the ancient temple of Aphaia. From Temple Hill you can also see the Acropolis of Athens and the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion. The island is famous for its pistachio products and local seafood. The best beaches for diving are Sarpa beach and Klima, with its blue-green waters, and Moni island, where you'll find peacocks and Kri Kri goats!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Nestling on the volcanic Methana peninsula, Vathi<\/b> is a small port where time seems to have stood still fifty years ago. It's the perfect port of call for those seeking raw, authentic and peaceful Greece. You enter Vathi through a narrow passage that opens onto a tiny quay lined with a few blue-shuttered tavernas. There are no luxury boutiques here, just the sound of fishing nets being mended and the lapping of the water against the volcanic stone jetty.\u00a0The Volcano Walk:<\/b> From the port, a small path leads us through goats and olive trees to the crater of Kameni Chora<\/b>. The hike is accessible and spectacular: you'll be walking on petrified lava flows, surrounded by a lunar landscape of red and black rocks, with breathtaking panoramic views of the entire Saronic Gulf.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

There are several good cruises or itineraries lasting one or two weeks in the Saronic Islands. Our itineraries are the result of our own travel experiences and suggestions from our visitors. Our itineraries focus on quiet, unspoilt harbours rather than tourist centres.<\/span><\/p>\n

Places to visit Epidaurus and its classical theatre, the corsair port towns of Poros, Hydra and Spetses, the beautiful neoclassical town of Nafplio and the nearby archaeological site of Mycenae, the fortified town of Monemvasia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Wind & Sailing Conditions<\/h2>\n

The Meltem is most noticeable in summer at the eastern mouths of the Gulf, along the Hydra-Monemvas\u00eea axis. Further west, the thermal effect comes into play, shifting the wind towards the east and even the south-east in the late afternoon at the head of the gulfs. At night, the trend reverses with WNW onshore breezes. Beware, the arrival of a high-pressure bubble and its strong NW'ly winds in the Ionian Sea may generate violent, katabatic W'ly winds at night along the eastern coast of the Peloponnese. The most exposed ports are Aegina and Hydra. This influence can be felt as far west as the Cyclades. .<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
