Family catamaran cruise in Greece: all you need to know

17 March 2026 | Uncategorised

A family catamaran cruise in Greece - it's a dream idea, but it often raises practical questions. At what age can children board? Is it safe? Which zone to choose? Here's everything you need to know to plan an unforgettable family holiday aboard our Lagoon 52.

How old do you have to be to go on a cruise?

We welcome children on board from 3 years. At this age, children are sufficiently autonomous to enjoy life on board in complete safety, with the supervision of parents and crew.

In fact, a catamaran is much more suitable for families than a traditional sailing boat - thanks to its stability, children hardly feel the movement of the boat. No heeling, no nausea, a stable and safe living platform.

Safety on board

Children's safety is our absolute priority. The Lagoon 52 is equipped with lifejackets suitable for children of all sizes. Our professional skipper ensures the safety of all passengers at all times, and will brief children on the rules of life on board as soon as they board.

The Lagoon 52's wide cockpit provides a safe and spacious living space. Children can play, eat and relax without risk. The aft bathing platform, flush with the water, is ideal for supervised swimming.

Ideal areas for families

The Ionian Islands - our top family recommendation

The Ionian Islands are the perfect destination for a first family cruise. The sailing conditions are gentle and predictable - the wind arrives around midday and dies down at sunset - and there are plenty of well-protected anchorages.

The turquoise waters of Paxos, the white sandy beaches of Lefkada, the accessible coves of Kefalonia - children are in heaven. And parents too.

The Saronic Islands - ideal for combining sailing and culture

Just a stone's throw from Athens, the Saronic islands offer easy sailing and a wealth of things to discover. Aegina and its ancient temple, Hydra and its donkeys, Poros and its quiet beaches - each island is a new adventure for children.

The sea is calm, crossings short and ports well equipped. It's the ideal area for families sailing for the first time.

Daily life on board with children

Meals

The Lagoon 52's galley is perfectly equipped for preparing meals on board. Family breakfasts on deck, light lunches at anchor, dinners in Greek tavernas - children love this freedom of pace.

The activities

The catamaran's tender opens up a world of exploration for children - accessing coves, exploring rocks, discovering deserted beaches. The snorkelling equipment on board will allow them to discover Greek marine life from their very first day.

Sleep

Each cabin on the Lagoon 52 has its own private bathroom. Families can occupy two connecting or adjacent cabins, giving parents and children their own space to relax.

Our tips for a successful family cruise

  • Pack plenty of sun cream - the Greek sun is intense, especially at sea
  • Pack your games and books for longer crossings
  • Adjust the pace - children need regular swimming breaks
  • Choose June or September - less intense heat than in July and August, ideal for children
