Islands to Visit

Mykonos

The island is popular for its well-organised, crystal-clear beaches and the best restaurants, offering upmarket services to visitors. Mykonos guests can choose between a cosmopolitan beach like Psarrou, famous for the Nammos beach restaurant, or relax more privately on Lia beach, enjoying only the sound of the sea! Other hot spots include Panormos beach and the Scorpios restaurant, both ideal for sunset cocktails and delicious food! Next to Scorpios is Paragka beach, where you can soak up the sun! Mykonos also has an airport with several flights, attracting many celebrities from the international jet set! Dilos and Rineia, two nearby islands with crystal-clear waters, are also worth a visit!

Kytnos

Kythnos is a beautiful island located in the western part of the Cyclades, offering a selection of charming beaches, ideal for moments of calm and relaxation. The most impressive beach is Kolona, where the sea wets both sides of the sandy strip, creating two golden sandy beaches. The monastery of Panagia Kanala is well worth a visit, while Chora and Driopida are the most popular villages with picturesque lanes and good restaurants.

Naxos

Naxos is the largest and greenest island in the Cyclades, situated between Paros and Mykonos. It represents the architecture of the Cyclades, with its white buildings, narrow marble streets, old churches and the Venetian castle of Chora, the capital of Naxos. The island is sometimes quite windy, making it ideal for windsurfers and kitesurfers! Naxos has the reputation of being a family island, but in fact it has many places to visit. For diving enthusiasts, the sea around Naxos is full of reefs and wrecks. Some of the best beaches on the island are Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Mikri Vigla and Plaka! Don't miss a visit to the marble gate of Portara, the two giant statues of Kouros and the temple of Apollo, the Greek god who protected music and poets.

Paros

Paros is situated in the heart of the Cyclades. It is made up of two main villages: Paroikia and Naoussa. The beach at Kolymbithres, with its artistic granite rocks sculpted by the wind and salt water, and Golden Beach are the must-see bays for swimming! The island attracts large numbers of tourists every year, not only for its natural beauty but also for its elite restaurants and diving centres, ideal for the more active visitor! For fans of extreme sports, we'd definitely recommend the Santa Maria beach, with its crystal-clear waters! Don't miss the picturesque village of Lefkes and the beach at Monastiri! Paros is also famous for its lively nightlife, so don't forget to try some new cocktails at the Barbarossa restaurant in Naoussa!

Milos

Milos is one of the Cyclades islands, best known for its impressive yellow-white beaches. Home to a dormant volcano, it has over 70 beaches, most of which are truly spectacular. Due to the eruption of the volcano millions of years ago, multiple rock forms were created, so a visit to Sarakiniko beach for swimming and Kleftiko bay for relaxing, is not to be missed! One of the most unique beaches is Papafragas beach, a cove with waters that change colour depending on the weather and light, and is surrounded by high cliffs and caves with dark waters. Visitors can also explore the local archaeological museums and traditional villages such as Klima, a small fishing village known as the «Little Venice of Milos» with its colourful house doors, and the village of Tripiti with its catacombs and windmills. And when evening comes, go to the church of Plaka, Panagia Korfiatissa, and watch the magnificent sunset!

Ios

What a beautiful island with a vibrant nightlife and incredible beaches! Mylopotamos is ideal from morning coffee to late night cocktails in the many beach bars along the coast. Manganari is a beautiful bay that will captivate guests with its crystal blue waters, while Gialos, with its golden sands, is ideal for a few moments of serenity. If you're looking for a little privacy, visit Tris Klisies beach in the southern part of the island. The sheltered Bay of the Winds is a perfect spot for diving. A visit to the Odysseus Elytis theatre and to the ancient poet Homer, whose tomb stands on a hill with an incredible view, are some of the best places on the island not to be missed. And the highlight of your visit: watch the magnificent sunset on Lorentzena beach. The most certain thing is that Ios hides more beauty than just endless partying.

Santorini

The famous sunset view at Oia is one of Santorini's main attractions, impressing and attracting many visitors every year! Its beaches differ from those of the other Greek islands due to their particular geographical features, as Santorini was destroyed by a volcanic eruption 3,600 years ago. The best-known bay is Red Beach, with its black and red volcanic pebbles and warm water. Other must-see beaches are Kamari and Perivolos, the longest black sand beach! The island's rocky, «pointed» architecture, picturesque sunsets and top restaurants make Santorini one of the world's most popular destinations! Another place to visit is a Santorini vineyard, as the island is home to some of the oldest vineyards in the world!

The little Cyclades

If you're looking for something unique and unspoilt, then the small Cyclades are perhaps the best islands for your summer holiday. Some of the most popular are Schinoussa, Iraklia and Koufonisia, offering fine sandy beaches and true blue waters. Visit Tsigouri Cove in Schinoussa for a private swim, explore the sunken WWII aircraft in Iraklia's Alimia Bay and be mesmerised by the natural beauty of Koufonisia. Feel the soft sand beneath your feet on Pori beach (Ano Koufonisi) and sample delicious Greek mezze in local restaurants (Kato Koufonisi).

Itineraries

For the Cyclades, it's best to limit the number of islands on your itinerary to reduce the time spent travelling. A popular itinerary is Kea, Syros, Mykonos, Paros and Kythnos. The more experienced can head for the Western Cyclades (Kythnos, Serifos, Sifnos and Milos). For a more authentic experience, head for the smaller Cyclades.

Wind & Sailing Conditions

Due to the strength of the wind in summer, this group of islands is recommended only for experienced sailors. This acceleration corridor between Greece and Turkey is a zone of strong winds in summer: the Meltem (a summer wind from the north). Without the Meltem, the heat can quickly become scorching. This strong wind lasts for a maximum of 3 to 4 days, which a skipper knows how to anticipate. As the islands are arranged in a circle (hence their name) and the winds are NE to the west of the islands and NW in the eastern part of the archipelago, you can sail in a circle, from island to island, with virtually no need to tack!

Ideally, it's best to sail in spring, when the flowers are in bloom, and in autumn, when the seawater is warmest; then there are more variations in the weather, more authentic life in the villages and the well-treed harbours are less crowded.
